My Latest Self-Imposed Challenge

There's a continual parade of ideas running through my mind at any given moment. I suppose I can thank my engineer father for that.

My latest endeavor I have taken on is compiling statistics on all my clients, for 2009 anyway. I started by trying to do it on the computer, using the spreadsheet, but that just looked waaay to difficult to manage. And I couldn't figure out how to print it..? The file would have been HUGE to compile everything I wanted all in one file. So I opted to make my own version on the word processor, and even then it's 2 pages front and back, with one page having 3 tiers on each side too. Hopefully I will be caught up-to-date by early next week, and will be happy to share what my "average" client profile for 2009 is beginning in January.

I expect these statistics to provide very useful information for me about what my clients' needs are, where they are coming from, how to market my business in the future, and help me decide what continuing education classes to take to improve my ability to meet the needs of my clients. It's odd to me how excited I get about this. I never thought of myself as any sort of a business-minded person when I was growing up and thinking of career choices, and I don't necessarily enjoy doing the work of compiling all this information, but I am so pleased with the end product that I don't mind doing it.

So check back with me in January to see how you compare against my "average" client. I will probably send an email out about my new information and may even post it on my website as well. Be assured, the closer you fit with my "average" client, the better you can expect me to meet your needs. Or should I say... "kneads"?

Growth by leaps and bounds

Recently, I posted a journal entry on my cafemom page, which admittedly gets a bit more of attention than this blog, about how great life is right now. I am learning that life is so much more about experiences and gaining wisdom through those experiences, and am quite comfortable with this perspective. Looking at everyday situations, wondering what the lesson is, or what can I take from these experiences..?

My husband has also just started taking a more active involvement in my work by doing my bookkeeping for 2009. Great news--I'm not drowning! He is so much more skilled at numbers than I am, so I am grateful for his help. Knowing where I stand has also helped me think about what I can do to improve, what my goals should REALLY be, areas that need to be more closely watched with caution, and yet, also think of ways to make life easier for my clients. Can I afford to offer discounts on my services, or can I find other ways to show my appreciation, or enhance the value of what my clients are getting?

The Willamette Falls Women's Health Fair that I participated in on Saturday, October 3 was fun. That was my first fair of any kind, so I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I look forward to trying it again next year. While I was there, I spoke with one of the women from Westwood Workout in Milwaukie, and entered into their door prize drawing also. I didn't win the drawing from the fair itself, but they were kind enough to give me a 2 week free trial membership. I have gone in 3 times so far, and am really liking it! We also briefly discussed doing some on-site massage for the members there, and I mentioned the idea to the owner yesterday, so she's going to think about it.

I also just want to be sure all my clients know how much I appreciate them. My growing success would be impossible without your support and appreciation and love of what massage does for you. Keep spreading the word! The knowledge of massage's benefits is expanding, but more people still need to be educated. And your referrals help accomplish that, as well as earning free massage time from me!

Oh, and I also have to mention that I have another handwarming trick that seems to be working! So if you've been turned off by cold hands in the past, be assured that's a problem of the past!

One final note--if you got this far through and it's still October while you're reading it, I am offering 30% off all my services this month in honor of my 3 year anniversary as a licensed massage therapist. Give me a call now to book your appointment, or make one yourself at www.rachelsheardlmt.clickbook.net . The discount applies to both massage and spa treatments, though not the "Massage & Spa Indulgences."

Okay, I really need to switch hats now. I hope to see you soon, my dear client.
