Product & Service Spotlight: Warm Linen Wrap Deluxe & Hot Snapz Reusable Handwarmers

Last month, I shined the spotlight on Aloe & Herb Bodywraps--click here to view that post--so I'm spinning off of that to tell you more about the Warm Linen Wrap Deluxe. When you schedule this treatment, you'll not only get the same bodywrap, but you'll also enjoy neck, face, scalp, hand and foot massage while you relax in the wrap. The Warm Linen Wrap Deluxe is $95 of pure pampering pleasure.

Carrying on the heat element, I have some of my career-saving handwarmers available for purchase. Hot Snapz is the brand I have on hand now, and they are holding up very well. What are they, you may be wondering? Small, hand-size pouches filled with sodium acetate, with a small metal disc inside. When you need to activate them, they will be in liquid state. To get them warming, simply click/snap the metal disc inside. The liquid inside will begin to crystallize as it warms up. It helps to squish it around during this rapid process to keep the pouch pliable. As the warming elements fades away, it will become more solid.

To make the handwarmers ready to be reactivated, they need to be boiled in a pot of water, with a washcloth underneath to keep them from coming in direct contact with the hot pot. I set my used handwarmers on top of a folded washcloth, cover them with water and the lid, turn the stove to medium, and set a timer for 20 minutes (too many times I've forgotten I'm boiling them and get reminded by water boiling over in the pot!). Use tongs to lift them out. Be sure they appear to be clear throughout. If there are any bits of crystallized material remaining, they will often reactivate spontaneously. I then leave any that have crystals still in them in the pot, covered, with the heat turned off until I come back to them later. Allow them to cool completely before intentionally reactivating. Each hand-size handwarmer is available to purchase for $10 or 3/$25.

Product & Service Spotlight: Aloe & Herb Bodywraps; & Scrub Cloths

Just before I started my vacation this month, a new client inquired about having bodywraps done. Not wanting to leave her stranded while I was on vacation, I was going to make an exception to see her, as she wanted to do the wraps in preparation for an upcoming trip. We did 3 of the Warm Linen Wraps before my vacation, then she purchased some of the Solution Gel and continued doing the wraps herself at home. Upon returning from my vacation, she went back to the Warm Linen Wraps. She decided to just take measurements at her first and last wrap with me, so I can't tell what her inch loss is up to this point, but it is noticeable, as well as smoothing of cellulite from the thighs. What struck me, was her comment that she feels much less fatigue, much more energy than before beginning the wraps, and that she would be continuing the wraps (package of 7) for that benefit alone, that the inch-loss was now just a perk to go along with that result.

Aloe & Herb Toxin Cleansing Body Wraps
Aloe and herbs surround you for 45 minutes during these warming, soothing, hydrating, and deeply relaxing body wraps. A great treatment for clients with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, MS, diabetes, gastric bypass, acne, and the list goes on. No shower needed after body wrap.
It is your choice whether we take measurements before and after. If we do, I mark the places I get measurements on your body with an eye-liner pencil, to assure measuring the same place again after your wrap is finished.
Inch-loss results are possible and best seen by clients who bathe with Aloe or Lavender Body Wash and with series of 7 or 12 wraps. Series discount pricing when booking and paying in advance. Following the wrap, the effect of the Aloe & Herbs stays in your body for 3 days. For each of those 3 days, try to drink a gallon of water (128oz) to help flush the toxins (Toxins stored in fat include but are not limited to ca ffeine, nicotine, medication by-products, food chemicals, environmental substances, etc.) from your body. Ideally, wraps should be done at 4 day intervals, to maintain the level of Aloe & Herbs effect in your body.

You have three choices of wraps, and each is explained below.

Warm Linen Wrap
This is the most commonly done wrap using rolled linen cloths that have been soaked in the tea-like Aloe & Herb Solution. The linen cloths are wrapped on your body, and you will look like a mummy when we're finished. Wearing cotton underwear and bra will allow the aloe & herb solution to reach your skin for full body absorption and maximum toxin cleansing.
After each half of your body is wrapped, you pull the warming suit (think rain-suit) over the wrapped parts to hold in the heat. Then you get cozy under a blanket on the massage table and enjoy 45 minutes of peace and quiet while the Aloe & Herbs penetrate through your pores. It's not uncommon to be chilled as the wraps are removed. $75
Warm Linen Wrap Series of 12 $750--SAVE $150=TWO FREE WRAPS!!
Warm Linen Wrap Series of 7 $450--SAVE $75=ONE FREE WRAP!

Solution Gel Wrap
The gel formula allows those sensitive to heat or with sunburns to enjoy the cleansing effects of the traditional body wrap. The gel is applied to the body and covered with plastic wrap.  Then you get cozy under a blanket on the massage table and enjoy 45 minutes of peace and quiet while the Aloe & Herbs penetrate through your pores. It's not uncommon to be chilled as the plastic wrap is removed.  $65

Express Wrap-n-Go
Solution Gel Wrap applied from elbows to knees, covered with plastic wrap. Then you redress, go about your day, and remove the plastic wrap yourself after 45-60 minutes. $35

Scrub Cloths

Speed the skin cell turnover process by buffing your skin more effectively than with a washcloth or loofah. Use prior to your bodywrap with the Aloe Bodywash or Lavender Spa Bath/Bodywash for maximum absorption power of the bodywrap.
Small $6, Large $9

Le Sigh....Catching Back Up Again...

Well, I had a pretty good run going at keeping up with this blog, and then came Thanksgiving and the rug got pulled right out from under me. Now in this post, I'm going to catch up for the month of December all the posts I've missed. I'll condense it though. ;)

Upcoming Events
Christmas is almost here, and I've decided December is a good month to block out my weekends from being available. So many family/friend/shopping/decorating/raking/gutter-cleaning/light-hanging demands, I sorta panic whenever I've gotten an appointment request during the weekends this month. Making a note of this for next year.

Recipe of the Month
I stumbled across this recipe in October after watching a few food documentaries on Netflix, and this became the first (and so far only) vegan recipe I've ever made. And it. Is. Good. :)

Pumpkin Pie Brownies (pumpkin + chocolate = safe bet for a first vegan recipe and success!)
Ingredients
For the Brownie Layer
4oz bittersweet chocolate, melted
1 cup canned or pureed pumpkin
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup canola oil
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup flour (in my house, it's always whole wheat, unless I'm making snickerdoodles--wheat just doesn't work for those)
1/4 cup dutch processed cocoa powder
1 T tapioca flour (or arrowroot or corn starch--I used corn starch)
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
For the Pumpkin Pie Layer
1 cup canned or pureed pumpkin
2 T tapioca flour (or arrowroot or cornstarch--I used corn starch)
1/2 cup non-dairy milk (I used soy)
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
pinch ground nutmeg
pinch ground allspice
To Decorate
A handful of chocolate chips (would you believe I forgot about that?!)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 9 inch springform pan, or use a 9 inch square pan, preferably lined with parchment paper (I used a greased square pan).
To Make the Brownie Layer
1. Melt the chocolate.
2. In a large mixing bowl, mix together pumpkin, sugar, oil, and vanilla. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, tapioca (cornstarch), baking soda, and salt and stir to combine, then mix in the melted chocolate.
To Make the Pumpkin Layer
Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl and stir until thoroughly combined.
To Assemble
Use a spatula to spread the brownie layer into the prepared baking pan, taking care to bring the batter to the edges of the pan. Pour the pumpkin layer over it, leaving a little room at the edges if you can. Bake for 30 minutes, until the pumpkin layer looks fairly firm (a little jiggling is okay) and has cracked at the edges a bit.
Let cool for 20 minutes and then transfer to the fridge to set for at least an hour and a half. Once set, decorate with chocolate chips and serve.

Product & Service Spotlight: Gift Bags & Last Minute Lottery
Included in the $15 gift bag is 2oz jojoba (the "oil" I use for massages, 2oz Aloe Body Wash, 2oz Lavendar Spa Bath/Body Wash, Aloe Foot & Callus Rub, and 2 therapeutic detox bath soaks. I even have some gift bags and tinsley stuff to package it in if you'd like. The perfect way to package a gift certificate.
The Last Minute Lottery--that name just came to me now--is something I've been thinking about doing for the past several weeks. So what is it? Many of you already follow me on facebook and have no doubt seen my posts offering to book my open same-day appointments for $15 off regular rates. I've been thinking about taking this a step further and calling specific client(s) to fill the appointment gratis. Eligible lottery entrants would be unemployed, students, seniors, and/or veterans. Funny thing is...shortly after I had this idea in my mind, my schedule started to fill up naturally! So I haven't compiled my lottery yet, but the thought is still in my mind. More updates to come--keep a look out.

Post your feedback below! Happy holidays!!!

Product & Service Spotlight: "Detox" Relaxation Bath Soak & Hands For Heroes

“Detox” Relaxation Bath

Dissolve in a warm to hot bath. Soak for 10-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. The hot water opens your pores, allowing minerals from the salts to be absorbed through your skin, while the baking soda helps soothe your skin. The primary mineral absorbed will be magnesium from the Epsom salt. Magnesium, balanced with calcium, is an important mineral for muscle relaxation, nerve conduction, and the production of energy. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory.

Note: hot mineral baths are not appropriate for everyone. Consult your physician if you have any health issues before using this bath recipe containing Epsom salt, sea salt, and baking soda.

You can purchase one or as many as you'd like at any time for $2 each. Two single-use bags are included in the Gift Bag/Product Sampler Pack, along with 2oz. jojoba, 2oz. Aloe Body Wash, 2oz. Lavender Spa Bath/Body Wash, Aloe Foot & Callus Rub for $15. Either the "Detox" Relaxation Bath by itself or the Gift Bag make a nice way to present a gift certificate for massage this holiday season.

Hands for Heroes™

Product & Service Spotlight: Body Butters & Same-Day Appointments

Honey Butter & Mango Butter
Sweetly satisfying, these pleasant, refreshing moisturizers are perfect for intensive, all-day skin hydration. Exercise indulgence with fun and fruity Skin Therapy from Set-N-Me-Free.

Mango, considered a "superfruit," is rich in natural antioxidants and nutrients. Honey is a humectant that attracts and retains moisture, and protects skin from UV damage while promoting skin rejuvenation.

Both of these butters help to diminish wrinkles and hydrate skin for a soft, supple feel.

Customize your relaxation and skin enhancing experience with a body butter that will sweeten your massage, hydrate skin, and diminish wrinkles. The honey adds a warm, soothing feeling, while the mango is more invigorating and refreshing.
$4 per session as an add-on, $4 1oz sample, $14 5oz jar

Same-Day Appointments
Follow me on Facebook for regular notification of my same-day appointment availability. If you decide to book one of those appointments, you'll be treated to $15 off regular rates, but you need to mention the offer to get it.

People looking for a massage on Google will now also see when I have open appointments when they click on my Place Page. Those posts will not be directly tied to a $15 savings offer, but I do have a $15 off coupon on Google also.

Product & Service Spotlight: Epsom Salt Soak & Out-Call Massage Parties

Recently, I stumbled across an idea that inspired something new. The result: My free Epsom Salt Soak packets now include an inspirational message--think of it as the fortune cookie of massage. For over a year, I've been receiving Notes From The Universe and saving my favorite messages, so I've gone through those and printed out the ones that I thought would apply well for my clients to receive also. Take a packet home with you after your next massage.

Back to massage, in the past month, I've done more out-calls than I have in my whole 5 years as a LMT. Usually, I am such a creature of habit that I've never been very interested in doing out-calls, but this recent experience was a lot of fun. Two of the out-calls were with a group of friends--all out-of-towners--that were renting a house floating on the Willamette River. The change of scenery was actually quite nice, and has inspired me to promote more out-call parties. It's a bit of work loading, unloading, and resetting my massage equipment and supplies, so I do prefer to do parties of 2-6 massage recipients and charge a single $30 out-call fee that can be split among the recipients.

Beyond the windows near the face cradle is the river.

I loved all the natural light in this house.

Invite me over for your next gathering with friends--alumni parties, bridal shower, baby shower, birthday, holiday, or just because! Please call me to plan your massage party--503-318-9626.

Product & Service Spotlight: Spa Treatment Closeout!

In the next month or two, I plan on phasing out the spa-section of my treatment menu. These services are underutilized, and, as mentioned in previous blog posts, my business is beginning to take a new direction into mentoring.

I've never been a real girly-girl, so the spa-aspect doesn't quite captivate me personally. My initial excitement in expanding my menu in that way was that it would allow me to bring in revenue without being as physically demanding as massage. Without my heart in it, I don't feel I've marketed it well, the economy may have an implication as well, preventing consumers from enjoying these kinds of services.

What I will hold onto will be the body butters (honey and mango) that can be added on during a massage, the aloe foot & callus rub, the aloe moisture cream, the aloe heat creme, and possibly the aloe body wash and lavender spa bath. Gift bags will still be available at this point, and I will also continue to provide the Detox Relaxation Bath packs for purchase.

Any samples on hand, excluding those mentioned above, can be taken with you at no charge as you come in for your regular massage appointments, while supplies last. Samples of the above mentioned products will be available for $1 each, or as otherwise labeled.

Product & Service Spotlight: Aloe Facial Cleanser & Mini-Facials

Aloe Facial Cleanser
Rich, Moisturizing Lotion for Normal & Dry Skin
Like no other cleanser -- this product contains no soap! Cleaning is done with active enzymes (naturally present in aloe vera) that penetrate into pores to wash away dirt, makeup and excess oil.

Moisten face with Aloe Misting Spray or water, apply a small amount of the lotion cleanser, massage lightly and remove with a towel. You can actually clean without water -- so convenient (think camping!).

Lecithin in the cleanser will emulsify the oils to be cleansed from deep pores. This vegetable lecithin adds collagen and elastin for better skin tone.

The calming and anti-inflammatory properties of chamomile will soothe irritation and reduce puffiness making it excellent on areas of eczema and psoriasis too. Enjoy the smooth and never-dry feeling after you remove this lotion cleanser.

Available in sample size $1 each, 4oz $11, 8oz $18.

Mini-Facial
Cleanse--using either the Aloe Facial Cleanser described above or Aloe Enzyme Cleanser for oily skin or a deeper cleansing for normal-dry skin, pH toner, skin firming mask, and moisturizer--using Aloe Milk Moisture, Aloe Moisture Cream, or Day-Night Emollients, depending on your skin's needs.

This is, as the name implies, a Mini-Facial. It won't be the extensive facial you'd get from an esthetician, but is a wonderful way to extend your relaxation time during a massage. Usually, I will do the Mini-Facial at the end of the massage and incorporate more facial massage as well. When adding on to your massage, just let me know before we get started that you'd like to do the Mini-Facial also, to be sure I'll have time and finish preparing for this service.

Available as an Add-On for $15 or a la carte for $30.

Product & Service Spotlight: Aloe Foot & Callus Rub, Foot Polish

We're finally beginning to see some sunshine!! YAY! How ready are your feet for flip-flop and sandal season? If your feet have calluses, rough spots, are very dry/cracked, or you're just interested in preventing those things, my spotlight product Aloe Foot & Callus Rub and Foot Polish service would be helpful for you.

Aloe Foot & Callus Rub cools hot, tired feet, softens calluses and corns. When I massage your feet, this is the stuff I use. Contains 60% aloe, vitamins A & E, and menthol. Currently, I have samples available for you to try out, and I plan to stock up again soon on the 4oz size. If you'd like to have some to keep your feet super soft throughout the summer, let me know soon so I can be sure to order yours. Planning to place my order in the next week. Samples are $1 each, the 4oz size is $11.

The Foot Polish may not be what you expect. The polish is really a scrub, not nail polish. You'll begin with soaking your feet in foot bath with some Lavender Wash for 10 minutes. I'll apply some Lavender Wash directly on callused areas. Then, I'll remove your feet one at a time and towel dry, lightly misting with Aloe Misting Spray. I'll then apply a cream made with Foot & Callus Rub and Comfrey Gel to your feet and lower legs, covering with plastic film, then warm towel. These stay on for 10 minutes, then I'll polish your feet and legs with a scrub cloth soaked in heated Aloe Vera Liquid. Next, I'll pat you dry with a warm towel, apply Cuticle Aid and small amount Foot & Callus Rub.

This service can be added on to a massage for $10, or $20 as a stand-alone service. You are welcome to purchase a scrub cloth. Small size is $6, large is $9. Aloe Vera Liquid and Cuticle Aid are also available in sample sizes for $1 each.

Product & Service Spotlight: Buy in Bulk with Massage Packages & $1 Spa At-Home Samplers

Now that tax day is officially behind us, you will know now whether you can look forward to a tax return. If you do get one, no doubt you're already "spending" those dollars in your mind while you wait for the money to arrive in the mail or deposit itself nicely in your bank account--or am I the only one who dreams over and over how best to spend those dollars?

Consider taking extra care of your body with that extra cash. Invest in your health--the body that moves you along each day while work, play, working out, stress, exploration, and even stretching can leave your body an achey mess. I've made it easy and even cheaper for you to invest in getting regular massage with massage packages. Packages are available in bulk, discounted quantities ranging from 7-52 massages and saving 15-30% off regular rates. The Silver Package with 13 sessions has been a popular choice, giving you a monthly massage plus one bonus session at 20% off regular rates. Not sure which package is best for you? Call me (503-318-9626), and I'll be happy to help you decide.

Buying in bulk doesn't suit your style or budget, but you still want to treat yourself to something, right? I've recently added Spa At-Home Products in $1 sample size containers, so you can try out several products easily. Samples available include: Aloe Milk Moisturizing--good for face and body moisturization; Aloe Heat Crème--soothes sore muscles and joints, reduces cellulite with daily application; Day-Night Emollients--extra-rich moisturizer for drier faces; Aloe Moisture Cream--versatile moisture for face and body, thick and creamy like a body butter; d'Aloe Gentle Gel--this stuff has a wide range of uses from baby skin, acne, foot irritation, sunburn, skin firming, and more; Cuticle Aid--protects cuticles and elbows; Aloe Facial Cleanser--rich, moisturizing lotion for normal and dry skin, cleans without water (think camping!); Aloe Enzyme Cleanser--gentle deep cleaning.

Stop by and pick up a few samples and let me know what you think of them. The ones you like can easily be ordered full size if I don't have it on hand already.
